Marc Jacobs was born in 1963 in New York City. He attended the High School of Art and Design before graduating in 1981 and enrolling in Parson's School of Design. He received many of the schools highest awards including the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble award and the Design Student of the Year award in 1984. In 1987 Jacobs earned his highest honor to date by being the youngest ever to receive the fashion industry's most profound tribute, The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent. In 1993 Marc Jacobs launched his own design company, Marc Jacobs International Company.
